This the second and last part of a series on how I made a set of machine skates. These turned out OK. The machining could have been better. The welding could have been better. I suppose I broke the cardinal rule that if it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing. But I just wanted a set of skates. They didn’t need to be perfect and they didn’t need to be pretty.

I’ve been wanting a better way to move heavy machines around in my shop. Typically, I would use 1″ black pipe as rollers, but in many case, a set of machine skates would be easier. I want to make these so they are steerable, and will handle the weight of any machines in my shop.

I found this buffer at a recent auction that looked a little worse for wear, but I took a chance, bid on it and won. I now want to take the time to clean it up and put it to use. Things did not go perfectly, but it ended up great.
