My First Steam Engine Project! – Making a lapping tool for stay bolt sleeves

Everyone else is doing it, why not me! I decided to get into the steam engine thing that seems to be all the rage on YouTube these days. Although, it’s not my steam engine, and it’s a little bigger than the ones I’ve seen on some of my favorite YouTubers channels. But I am starting with a tool that used to lap the seals of the stay bolts sleeves to prevent leaks.

PrimeWeld MIG285 Update! All New Manual Mode

Customers spoke! PrimeWeld listened!

The PrimeWeld MIG 285 has been updated to include a manual mode so the user can adjust wire feed speed and voltage independently. In this video, I install and test the new control board.

As of this video, PrimeWeld tells me all machines coming from the factory will have this installed by default. If you are a current owner of a MIG 285, you can call PrimeWeld and they will send you a new control board and some instructions on how to install it.

Machining a Cast Iron Straight Edge – Part 2

I try to be constantly working on learning new skills, and one that I have been wanting to learn is machine way scraping, a skill I plan to use when I rebuild my 1960 13″ South Bend Lathe. There are a bunch of new tools I will need to accomplish this, and a straight edge is one of them. I picked up this 18″ prism straight edge as a raw casting from Denis Foster. The first step in preparing this raw casting to become a useful tool is to machine all of the necessary surfaces.
