What’s it gonna cost

Well, this whole workshop idea is starting to gather a little steam. I talked to a contractor, who gave me a ballpark idea of what it could cost to build phase 1 of the shop. In order to get a better estimate, I really needed a set of plans. I hired a local architect and he created a set of plans that can be used for construction as well as the permit process.

Torch Cart

I bought oxy-acetylene setup off Craigslist. This thing must have been sitting in 2 inches of water for a while. The cart was toast.

I had a 2 wheel dolly that I didn’t use very often that would make a perfect cart for this. I bought some sheet steel and made a new cart based on one I saw on YouTube.

Workshop Dreams

One of the reasons we bought this house was because it had room for expansion. Our lot is roughly .7 acres. Having a 2 stall garage is great, but having a big workshop would be even better. Adding a workshop plus a garage with a lift would be quite an undertaking.

I’m thinking I could start with just the workshop.

I was curious just how much room in the yard it would take, so I mapped it out with some fencing.

I could see this working. I was originally wanting to make this part a little smaller, but the wife wanted the BIG part of the shop further away from the house. Plus, I wanted it wide enough that I could store the Mule in the shop over the winter. So this plan is 34 feet deep and 17 feet wide.

Trying to organize

Doing my best to get tools organized in the garage. Not always easy, but I have a lot more space than I have ever had. And it certainly helps me keep track of my 10mm sockets. 😉

Parts is parts!

I needed some storage for all the small pieces of hardware I have lying around. I bought a bunch of storage bins from Harbor Freight and have been sorting stuff into them. Decided it was time to build a rack for the bins, plus give me a little more workbench space. Of course, it’s a horizontal surface, so I guarantee it will get loaded with miscellaneous junk in no time.

Designed it all in SketchUp. If you haven’t used this program, you have to try it.

Organized-ish

Got the tool cabinets and chests semi-organized in the garage. I’ve never had this much space before. Everything fits so nicely and I still have room for the Jeeps.
