While walking around downtown Moab, popping into the various shops, I just happen to run into the one and only Jessi Combs as she was looking over her Ultra 44 car in the parking lot of one of the downtown businesses. Jessi is the real deal. Not only can she turn a wrench with the best of them, she can weld and can drive anything. I met her last year, but the picture sucked. She was nice enough to let me bother her and take another.

I must admit, I was a bit star struck. 🙂

The plan was always not to run a trail in Friday, the day of the raffle. So I decide to take a walk downtown and do a little shopping. The artwork in some of the galleries is pretty unique.

I decided to bring home a depiction of Kokopelli.

For the first time in a long time, I was a passenger instead of the driver today. I didn’t have a trail today, so I hopped in TJ’s Jeep and rode along with him. It was fun just being able to sit back and relax, and enjoy the scenery for a change.

I’m not sure what year this was built, my guess would be mid 40’s, but I long to have a real Willys MB or Ford GPW for my own. This one was parked downtown outside of the Moab Grill. Very well used. I love that after 70+ years, it’s still running.

Kenny Hauk told us about a neat trick the Powerwagon 6×6 can do. I had to see it once it got dark enough.

Teraflex hosted a party. Brought out some of their builds. Served a bunch of food, even had a band playing. Dennis Wood was kind enough to pose for a selfie. I met him years ago at the Bantam festival in PA, but the picture I took was really horrible.

Definitely one of my favorite trails. The obstacles were challenging and fun. I can’t repeat it enough, the views out here are amazing.

Every year, Jeep brings out a bunch of new vehicles to EJS. Some of them are production, some concept only, some just cool builds. This year was no exception.

My favorite was the 2 door JT concept. But this one will never be built. I do wonder if they will ever make a kit out of it.

Rob, Chris and I headed out to run Kane Creek with the Red Rock 4 Wheelers. This trail is pretty awesome. Definitely one of my favorites.

This this really off camber section that feels like you’re about to roll over. But when I go back and look at the pictures, I wonder what I was ever worried about. LOL

Hamburger Hill was another treat. At one point, your driver side front tire is 6 inches from the edge of the cliff. And it’s a ways down.

Instead of going an a scheduled/guided EJS trail, today we decided to do our own thing. We drove up just north of town and headed on the Copper Canyon trail. Pretty basic trail. We thought we got lost on a different trail, because it got a little harder than we expected, but it turns out we were on the right trail all along.

We follow Copper Canyon north until it joined up with the highway. We had planned it out in advance to enter Arches National Park, so we pre-purchased passes online. Arches has a 4×4 only road/trail that leads to a couple arches that you can’t get to on the paved roads, and would be quite a hike on foot.

It was cool visiting a part of the park that most people don’t get to see.
